TeacherBridge is directed by the Center for Human-Computer Interaction (CHCI) at Virginia Tech and funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) Research on Learning and Education (ROLE) directorate.
The goal of TeacherBridge is to enable teachers to collaborate and share knowledge using the Internet.
TeacherBridge is an interactive, editable environment on the "web".
TeacherBridge supports collaboration through joint editing, chats, MOOs, and many tools created specifically for teacher-teacher, teacher-student, student-student interaction.
There are two ways to edit TeacherBridge pages:
Full Editor
Interactive editing software
For "live" editing of content
Supports uploading files and creating additional objects/tools
Provides chat capabilities
Allows for file management
Web Editor
Accessible from any web browser, no other software required
Should work on any machine (old, slow, "locked-down")
Not graphical (uses simple shorthand)
Create basic pages with formatted text.
Some features are not available through the Web Editor
Important - The Full Editor requires that Java Webstart be installed on your computer
Save this file to your desktop (or somewhere else on your local drive) then double-click it to run the installer. This may take several minutes to complete. This version of WebStart should work with Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000, and XP.
Mac users: If you are using MacOS X, WebStart comes as part of the operating system. Unfortunately, WebStart is not available for earlier versions of Mac OS (e.g., OS9). You can however, edit many kinds of objects on TeacherBridge directly from your web browser, without webstart.
Other platforms or operating systems: Contact us and we'll try to find a way for you to run webstart.
