NHD Field Trip to VT Newman Library




BMS and BHS students are invited to go on a field trip to VT Newman Library to conduct research for their National History Day Project. The following is the field trip schedule:

BHS students - ?

We will travel by BT bus and leave school around 8:00 to 8:15 in order to walk to the bus stop and be at VT by 9:00. Students are expected to use the time to do research on their project. This is a day to work in a research atmosphere were there will be college students also using the library to do their work. Please discuss the importance of good behavior with your child before you allow your child to attend.

Students will be given a tour and a lesson on using the VTLS system. They will be allowed to search the newspaper microfiche file if they have a specific date about their topic. This is not a time to search the net as they can do that at school or home.

Students will need to either pack a lunch or bring money to eat a Squires Student Center.
We will arrive back at school in time for students to catch their busses home.

Keep in mind the dates for the NHD project to be completed. Blacksburg History Night will be on March 18 with the Regional History Day March 26 at Radford University.

Students will not be allowed to go on the field trip if they do not have a lunch or money, a coat, or their permission slip signed by a guardian the day before we leave for VT.

Please return as soon as possible. At least one day before the class trip.


I give my child ________________________________________ (first and last name) to walk to the BT bus stop and spend the day with Ms. Logan at Virginia Tech's Newman Library to conduct research for his/her National History Day Project for 2004 on the dates of his/her grade level day. I understand that my child either needs to pack a lunch or money for lunch. I also have discussed with my child that appropriate behavior is expected of him/her at all times on this trip. If your child takes any medication during the day please send that medicine with him/her with a note.
