Instructions for associating Java WebStart application with the appropriate file extension (.jnlp)
Sometimes the Java WebStart application fails to get associated with the appropriate file extension (.jnlp). To correct this issue, you need to associate the file extension (.jnlp) with the Java Webstart (javaws.exe). These are directions for a PC.
From "My Computer", choose "Tools>Folder Options"
Click on the "File Types" tab
In the list of "Registered file types" scroll down to find the extension "JNLP" and "File Type" "JNLP File"
If JNLP does not appear in the list, click "New" then type JNLP in the location for "File Extension"
Click on JNLP in the list
Under "Details for 'JNLP' extension, it should say "Opens with: javaws". If it does not say this, click "Change"
If "javaws" does not appear in the list under "Recommended Programs" or "other Programs", then click "Browse..."
You will need to browse and find the program execution file "javaws.exe"
This is usually in the folder "Program Files>Java>j2rel.4.2_01>javaws" (or something similar)
The file should be named "javaws.exe". Click to highlight that file, then click "open" and then "OK" and "OK"
Now try to click on "Full Editor" again in the browser (on a page that you have permission to edit). This should open Java WebStart application and look for updates to the Bridge system. It should return with a dialog for your username and password. If so, then you have successfully associated the file, and Java WebStart is installed. If you receive an error past that point, then there might be a problem with your access to that particular page or other issue with permissions or firewall.
