BEFORE READING THE TRANSCRIPTS Begin your analysis by responding to these questions: 1) What issue did you bring to discuss during the MOO? 2) Was it discussed? 2) If not, what did you talk about? 3) Do you think you gained any new insights? 4) What were they? ISSUES: 1) Next, read through your transcript and choose one discussion topic to analyze. Copy and paste it into a word processing document, eliminating remarks that are extraneous to the discussion (e.g. chit-chat, discussion related to other topics). Minimum: 2 pages of transcript minus the extraneous comments. 2) Respond to the following: a) List as many points as you can find that were made about the issue or write a paragraph to summarize as many as you can find. b) Choose one of the points that you think should be discussed further and explain why you think it should be. Include any questions that you have that you would like to discuss. PARTICIPATION: Who in your group impressed you with their positive contributions? Why do you consider the contributions positive? Why do you think this person was able to contribute so effectively? THE ANALYSIS: Look at your responses to the "Before Reading the Transcripts" segment. Then think about your analysis of the transcripts. What did you learn from studying the transcripts that you didn't know before? YOUR SUGGESTIONS: Please give us any feedback you can think of that would help improve either the MOO space itself or the discussions. (Think about the collaborative space. What can we do to make this work better?) STANDARDS OF LEARNING: 1) Go to this website: http://www.pen.k12.va.us/VDOE/Superintendent/Sols/home.shtml 2) Choose "English," choose "WORD or PDF," and choose 8th Grade (on the pull-down menu). 3) Read over the standards for 8th grade English. Which ones do the MOO discussions and analysis address? How do they address the standards? Turn in the edited segment of your transcript as well as your response paper, which should be 3-4 pages. |
